Juan Manuel Moya

Expert business and finance

Juan Manuel is the Business and Finance Advisor at Tropenbos International. His role focuses on designing the business and finance strategy aimed at strengthening business model development, increasing market access, attracting financial resources, and sharing knowledge. To achieve these objectives, his work unites the interests and perspectives of diverse stakeholders, including local communities, private sector actors, financial institutions, and NGOs.

In developing enabling conditions for business cases in various landscapes, he has facilitated multi-stakeholder dialogues, seeking strategic alliances and innovative learning spaces that empower collective action. This ensures that stakeholders work together towards shared goals. Additionally, Juan Manuel supports the process of market access, connecting buyers with entrepreneurs, small producers, and local cooperatives that produce coffee, cacao, and various nuts.

From a financial perspective, Juan Manuel has worked to attract the private sector and impact investors to our landscapes, developing innovative financing models that support both community livelihoods and sustainable forest management. He integrates the realities of small producers and local communities with the interests of financial institutions, the private sector, and governments to create inclusive financial solutions. These efforts include designing a restoration fund in Colombia and financial mechanisms that drive impact in agroforestry and community forestry. He also coordinates our guarantee fund, Green Finance for SMEs.

Juan Manuel is committed to sharing knowledge through innovative approaches to collaborative learning. He works closely with TBI’s network partners and impact area experts to incorporate business and finance perspectives into strategic implementation. By facilitating communities of practice and developing knowledge products, he strengthens local capacities, guiding stakeholders towards sustainable, locally-owned solutions.
